Founded as Thermit Australia Pty Ltd in 1986, Goldschmidt Australia Pty Ltd is a leading provider of rail welding consumables, insulated rail joints, and technical rail services for Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.
Operating from dedicated facilities in Somersby, New South Wales, and Clontarf, Queensland, Goldschmidt Australia produces Thermit® welding consumables and assembles glued insulated rail joints (GIRJs) to support the construction, maintenance, and reliability of rail networks.
Complementing its product portfolio, the company provides services including welder and weld inspector training, rail grinding, and track inspection using ultrasonic and eddy current technologies.

Goldschmidt Australia was established as Thermit Australia Pty Ltd in 1986 in Brookvale, New South Wales. In the late 1980s, the company began assembling glued insulated rail joints (GIRJs) in Clontarf, Queensland.
During the mid-1990s, Thermit® production was relocated to Somersby, New South Wales, which remains the company’s largest manufacturing site and produces moulds, portions, and luting materials for regional rail markets.
The company expanded its technical service portfolio with rail grinding services in 2015 and introduced ultrasonic and eddy current inspection services in 2025.
Today, Goldschmidt Australia supplies products and services to customers across Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.
