Elektro-Thermit GmbH & Co. KG in Halle (Saale) is part of the Goldschmidt Group and a leading global provider of Thermit® welding technology.
With 190 employees Elektro-Thermit is the biggest company within the Goldschmidt Group and home to the world's largest and most advanced Thermit® production site, located in Halle (Saale).
Elektro-Thermit develops, produces and supplies all components that are required for the Thermit® welding process for around 50 countries worldwide. The portfolio includes Original Thermit® portions, refractory casting molds, reaction crucibles and a large number of tools and machines for performing and processing the weld as well as for its technical acceptance. Newly developed tools and machines complete the portfolio.

Milestones
Elektro-Thermit was founded in Berlin in 1919, 24 years after Hans Goldschmidt’s invention and patent of the groundbreaking Thermit® process. Only a few years later, the company was taken over by Th. Goldschmidt AG.
Despite the challenges of the Second World War and the relocation of production, the company was able to rebuild Thermit® production in Essen in 1945. That same year, the plant in Halle/Ammendorf transitioned to state ownership. In 1949, Elektro-Thermit GmbH was reestablished in Essen.
A major step followed in 1990, as Goldschmidt AG reacquired the Thermit® business in Halle/Ammendorf, further consolidating expertise and production capabilities. The new millennium brought significant development: in 2005, Elektro-Thermit GmbH & Co. KG relocated from Essen to Halle (Saale), Ammendorf, where a state-of-the-art Thermit® production facility was inaugurated.
The company consistently invested in its future: 2014 saw the conversion and expansion of mould production, ensuring the highest quality standards for rail welding moulds. In 2018, Elektro-Thermit celebrated the delivery of the 10 millionth Thermit® portion produced in Halle (Saale).
Elektro-Thermit celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 and continues to pave the way for the industry. In 2026, the expansion of the in-house training center for Thermit® welding demonstrates Elektro-Thermit’s commitment to innovation and the transfer of expertise.

Social Responsibility
