Milestones
Goldschmidt’s presence in North America began in 1967 with the establishment of Orgotherm Inc. in Chicago as an importing company for Thermit® welding products. To strengthen its local manufacturing capabilities, Elektro-Thermit GmbH & Co. KG founded U.S. Thermit Inc. in 1975 in Lakehurst (now Manchester), New Jersey, where production of Thermit® portions and molds commenced in 1981.
In 1983, Elektro-Thermit acquired Orgotherm Inc., and in 1985 U.S. Thermit Inc. and Orgotherm Inc. were merged to form Orgo-Thermit, Inc., creating an integrated platform for production, distribution, and technical support in North America.
The company has since continuously expanded its portfolio and technical capabilities. In 2013, Orgo-Thermit entered the rail grinding segment with the introduction of the VM8000 system. This was followed by further diversification into innovative track products, including magnetic safety systems, non-destructive testing technologies, and a comprehensive range of hydraulic track tools.
As part of its ongoing operational optimization, hydraulic tool manufacturing activities previously located in Moorhead, Minnesota, were relocated to the Manchester, NJ facility in 2025, strengthening integration across production, service, and support functions.
