Goldschmidt Holding GmbH, headquartered in Leipzig, Germany, serves as the financial and management holding company for the global companies of the Goldschmidt Group. As a family-owned group with a heritage dating back to the invention of the Thermit® process in 1895, Goldschmidt plays a leading role in the development of technologies and services for rail infrastructure.
From its Technology Innovation Center in Leipzig-Plaußig, the company drives the development of new products and processes that enhance infrastructure performance, operational reliability and lifecycle efficiency across the rail sector.
Milestones
The origins of the Goldschmidt Group date back to 1895, when Hans Goldschmidt invented and patented the groundbreaking Thermit® process, establishing the foundation for modern rail joining technology.
In 2003, Goldschmidt Thermit GmbH was designated as the finance and management holding company of the Goldschmidt Thermit Group, strengthening the strategic coordination of the group’s international activities.
In 2004, the company relocated its headquarters from Essen to Leipzig, Germany, further expanding its role as the central management organization for the global group.
In 2014, the Technology Innovation Center was established in Leipzig, creating a dedicated platform for the development of new products, technologies and processes for the rail infrastructure sector.
In 2020, Goldschmidt Thermit GmbH was renamed Goldschmidt Holding GmbH.

Social Responsibility
As a long-term partner in the Leipzig region, Goldschmidt Holding supports initiatives that promote innovation, education and culture. This includes its involvement in the North-West Saxony regional competition of the Jugend forscht science competition, hosted by Leipzig University, as well as sponsorship of the renowned Gewandhaus zu Leipzig.
