Veritasium released their second Thermit® video from the collaboration with Goldschmidt, which is all about Thermit® welding.
The creators of the science and engineering channel Veritasium on YouTube released their second Thermit® video on January 1, 2025, after filming for five days at Goldschmidts‘ group company Elektro-Thermit in and around Halle, Germany, in September 2024. You can read more about the collaboration in this previous news article.
The second episode, which was partly filmed at our group company Elektro-Thermit and partly during a welding night shift near Eisenach, offers some detailed and surprising insights into Thermit® welding, such as:
- The “moving” history of Thermit® welding, which began 130 years ago
- The number of work steps and the precision that go into a Thermit® welded rail joint
- The simple but ingenious reason why Thermit® welded rails stay in shape
