The company is headquartered in Leipzig and operates from its locations in Halle (Saale) and Dresden, delivering rail welding services and neutral temperature measurement services across Europa.

The origins of Goldschmidt Thermit Railservice date back to the founding of Elektro-Thermit GmbH in 1919. Alongside the development of the Thermit® welding process, the company began pioneering electric build-up welding technologies for the repair of worn rails, initially for municipal transport operators and later for the national railway network.
In the early 1950s, the ETEKA 5® and RIFLEX® welding processes were developed based on the ELLIRA submerged arc welding process. Over the following decades, they became well-established standards for rail maintenance in Germany and internationally.
With the establishment of Elektro-Thermit Dienstleistungs-GmbH in 1997, research, development and rail maintenance services were consolidated within the Goldschmidt Group. Mobile service teams carried out welding and repair work directly on installed rails and turnouts in the track.
In 2006, Goldschmidt Thermit Railservice GmbH was formed through the merger of Elektro-Thermit Dienstleistungs-GmbH, P.C. Wagner Elektro-Thermit Schweißgesellschaft m.b.H. and Elektro-Thermit France Sarl. The merger brought together decades of expertise in Thermit® welding with comprehensive know-how in rail maintenance, creating a specialized rail infrastructure service provider within the Goldschmidt Group.
